Review: Siteground Web Hosting
I’ve hosted several sites at siteground.com. The support is good. The price is good. They advertise a low monthly price, but the price is per-year. Their CPanel is my favorite admin panel. I would recommend siteground for any new webmaster. It is reliable.
However, as the site grows you’ll run into problems. Their limits on CPU use are very strict. Unlike other sites we’ve hosted on, even our blog members could use the site so much in an hour it would exceed the bandwidth per hour allowed. We never exceeded 300 000 hits a month, and still had to move because we were pulled down.
Breach the rules 3 times, which can happen in a matter of days, and the site is pulled down for good. Support for shared hosting is good, but don’t ask anything ‘hard’ like solving databases and fixing coding problems.
When our websites started to get large, they started pulling the site for hours at a time, without any assistance.
Another problem we had was blog hosting. They do not allow multiple Add-on domains. This means that pro bloggers must host each individual blog in a different account. That means that 6 blogs will cost $300 a year to operate. Compare this to sites that do allow add-on domains, and you pay $290 more than needed.
As a web hosting site there is no reason to reason to warn people away. However, if a website receives more than 500 000 hits a month, or includes video, podcast, then it might be a good idea to look elsewhere.
I give this host:
8/10 on service
5/10 on quality and reliability
9/10 on price.
